Board Non-Executive Director – Aged Rights Advocacy Service (SA) Inc

Seeking Expressions of Interest

The Aged Rights Advocacy Service (ARAS) is a Statewide, not-for-profit, independent, community based organization that has provided advocacy services for older people across South Australia for more than 26 years. Older people who use community or residential care services, people who live in retirement villages, and older people who are experiencing or who are at risk of abuse from family or friends, can request an ARAS advocate to assist them to address their concerns. ARAS is governed by an experienced Board, and full-time staff who provide information and education about aged care and broader human rights, and representation to resolve issues and ensure the voice of the older person is heard.

ARAS has one member, being the Council on the Ageing (South Australia) – COTA SA. ARAS has recently become a member of the national organization Older Persons Advocacy Network Ltd (OPAN).

ARAS currently has a vacancy for one or more experienced Board Directors who have a strong interest in the rights of older people and experience in issues that affect older consumers. The Board is seeking a candidate who is committed, has relevant networks, an ability to think strategically and to drive excellent governance practices in an exciting time of change and development for the organisation.

The ARAS Board currently meets monthly during business hours and members are expected to serve on one of the Board sub-committees. Board directors are voluntary positions, with expenses reimbursed.

The ARAS Board currently meets monthly during business hours. The Chair and Board positions are voluntary.

Human Resource Manager (Part Time)

Aged Rights Advocacy Service Inc (ARAS) is a statewide, not for profit, independent, community based advocacy and education service, supporting the wellbeing of older people to maintain or regain control of their lives and have their voices heard.  

ARAS has been operating for over 26 years in South Australia and is also part of the Older Persons Advocacy Network Ltd supporting older people nationally through the National Aged Care Advocacy Program. ARAS is going through a process of growth and is seeking applications for a part time Human Resource Manager for a 9 month contract until June 2018.   ARAS offers a flexible, family friendly and inclusive workplace, which values workplace diversity within the team.
